How I Built My Dream Outdoor Kitchen

If you love cooking and entertaining outdoors, you might want to consider building your own outdoor kitchen. In this post, I will share with you how I transformed my backyard into a cozy and functional living space with a brick fireplace, a patio paver floor, a Napoleon grill, and an arbor.

The Fireplace
The first thing I did was to build a fireplace out of brick. I wanted to create a focal point for the outdoor kitchen and a warm place to gather around on chilly nights. I followed this tutorial from DIY Network to construct the fireplace from scratch. It took me about two weeks to finish, but it was worth it. The fireplace looks amazing and adds a lot of charm and character to the space.

The Floor
Next, I laid out patio pavers to create the floor for the outdoor kitchen. Patio pavers are easy to install and come in various shapes, colors, and sizes. I chose a natural stone look that matches the brick fireplace. I followed this guide from Lowe’s to prepare the ground, level the pavers, and fill the gaps with sand. The patio pavers create a smooth and durable surface that is easy to clean and maintain.

The Grill
The most important part of any outdoor kitchen is the grill. I wanted a high-quality grill that can handle any kind of cooking, from searing steaks to smoking ribs. I decided to go with a Napoleon grill, which is one of the best brands in the market. The Napoleon grill has a stainless-steel body, four burners, a side burner, a rotisserie kit, and an infrared rear burner. It also has a built-in thermometer, a warming rack, and an LED control panel. The Napoleon grill is easy to use and delivers excellent results every time.

The Arbor
To make the outdoor kitchen more comfortable and inviting, I built an arbor over the patio furniture. The arbor provides shade from the sun and adds some style and elegance to the space. I followed this plan from Family Handyman to build the arbor from cedar wood. It took me about three days to complete, but it was not too difficult. The arbor has a simple design that complements the fireplace and the grill.

The Extras
To complete the outdoor kitchen, I added some extras that make it more enjoyable and functional. I bought some outdoor furniture that is weather-resistant and comfortable. I chose a sofa, two chairs, a coffee table, and an umbrella. I also added some plants and flowers to bring some color and life to the space. I planted some herbs in pots that I can use for cooking. I installed some netting around the arbor to keep away the insects and pests. Finally, I bought a big green egg, which is a ceramic cooker that can grill, bake, roast, and smoke food. I can’t wait to try it out!

Conclusion
Building my own outdoor kitchen was one of the best decisions I ever made. It has increased the value of my home and improved my quality of life. I love spending time outdoors with my family and friends, cooking delicious food, and enjoying the fresh air. If you are thinking about building your own outdoor kitchen, I hope this post has inspired you and given you some ideas. You don’t need to spend a fortune or hire a contractor to do it. You can do it yourself with some planning, creativity, and hard work.
